GIRL 1. WARMING UP.

MIKE CAREY and ME.

Bueno, la noticia del descando de su libro mensual, X-Men:Legacy, por parte de Mike Carey, de su reorganización de otros compromisos existentes, de su separación voluntaria, que no divorcio, de los personajes que ama, y de su promesa de volver pronto, me da pie a incluir algunos bocetos y páginas de mi colaboración en Age of  X: Alpha. 

Después de dejar amistosamente mi etapa en la agencia Nutopia, por un deseo de total libertad y de total control de las riendas de mi futuro profesional, el primer trabajo que realicé, mientras esperaba el guión del primer libro de la miniserie Hawkeye:Blindspot, fue una historia corta escrita por Mike Carey.

El libro se agotó, y tiempo después de acabar la miniserie de Hawkeye me decidí a contactar con él. Todo fué amabilidad y respeto por parte del escritor afamado hacia este humilde artista que va sobreviviendo como puede en el mercado americano. Asi que desde aquí mi agradecimiento, y aunque como él dice, no de inmediato, espero verlo muy pronto de nuevo en el universo-X o en qualquier otro universo.

Well, the news of the break from the monthly book ,X-Men-Legacy, by Mike Carey, his reorganization of other commitments, his voluntary separation ,not divorce , from the characters he loves, and his promise to be back soon, leads me to include some sketches and pages from my work in Age of  X: Alpha. After leaving friendly my stage in the Nutopia agency, by a desire for total freedom and total control of the reins of my future, the first work I did while waiting for the script of the first book of the miniseries Hawkeye: Blindspot was a short story written by Mike Carey.
The book sold out, and time after finishing the Hawkeye miniseries I decided to contact him. It was all kindness and respect by the famous writer to this humble artist who will survive as he can on the American market. So here my gratitude, and although as he says not straight away, I hope to see him soon again in the X-universe or another universe.

El próximo mes descubriremos el trabajo de los equipos creativos en los nuevos títulos de DC Comics. Si todos reflejan la energía e ilusión que yo he observado de primera mano en artistas como Guillem March o Mikel Janin nos espera un mes de plena satisfación. Yo no voy a perdérmelo.

Next month we will discover the work of creative teams in the new titles of DC Comics. If all reflect the energy and enthusiasm that I have observed first-hand artists like Guillem March or Mikel Janin we wait a month full satisfaction. I will not miss it.

Algunos autores, entre los que me incluyo, utilizan pequeños bocetos, Thumbnails, para componer la página. Se trata de pequeños dibujos, aproximaciones, en las que aparece la idea original, sin mucho detalle, y en los que se deja fluir la mano. El proceso continúa con el trabajo a lápiz en el formato final, mucho más grande. No deja de asombrarme que esos lápices finales pierden algo de frescura, aunque ganan en detalle.

Aquí tenéis una muestra de ello, en las páginas de X-Men:Emperor Vulcan. Marvel Comics.

Some authors, myself included, use small sketches, Thumbnails, to compose the page. These are small drawings, approachs, which appears the original idea, without much detail, and in which the hand is allowed to flow. The process continues to work in pencil on the final size, much bigger. Never ceases to amaze me those final pencils lose some freshness, but gain in detail.
Here is an example of this in the pages of X-Men: Emperor Vulcan. Marvel Comics.

 

BATMAN, WONDER WOMAN Y GREEN LANTERN CORPS EN TU MÓVIL.

Además de trabajar en el departamento editorial, en algunas ocasiones te hacen encargos para otros medios. Aquí tenéis una muestra de algunos dibujos realizados exprofeso para fondo de móviles. No os puedo enseñar el trabajo final a color, como es lógico, pero hice cuatro series de ilustraciones, una de Batman, una de Wonder Woman, Flash y Green Lantern Corps. El color fué realizado por el incomparable Ulises Arreola.

Besides working in the editorial DC's department, sometimes they make assignments for other media. Here is a sample of some drawings made expressly for mobile backgrounds. I can't show you the finished color work, of course, but I did four sets of illustrations, one of Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern Corps. The color was done by the incomparable Ulises Arreola.

Trabajé para Marvel durante una corta temporada en Deadpool hace ya algunos años.

Después de unos años de impás, regresé con Nightwing. Aquí tenéis algunas muestras de esa época, creo que os resultará interesante ver lo que ven los editores, antes de decidirse a dar un trabajo. Yo en aquella ocasión tuve suerte.

I worked for Marvel for a short time in Deadpool some years ago.
After years of impasse, I returned to Nightwing. Here are some samples of the time, I thought you would be interesting to see what the editors see before deciding to take a job. I got lucky on that occasion.

Wolverine:Totem.

Como ya ha pasado algún tiempo, creo que puedo mostrar algunas imágenes de mi proyecto Wolverine:Totem.

Trabajé haciendo algunos one-shots con el viejo Logan, Wolverine:Sense Memory(Rampaging Wolverine), Wolverine vs Thor, Wolverine:Mr.X, Wolverine:Weapon X Files, a parte de ayudar a terminar algunos libros relacionados, y mi falta de pudor y mi impetú, a veces desaforado, me llevó a presentar un proyecto en Marvel con este nombre, Wolverine:Totem.

No pudo ser, pero estoy orgulloso de haberlo intentado y me sirvió para seguir aprendiendo y evolucionando como artista.

Wolverine como indio pies negros, frente a algunos villanos del Far West Marvel y una amenaza tan terrible como conocida.

Me ayudó a zambullirme un poco más el universo Marvel, buscando información en las viejas colecciones de Radwide Kid o Kid Colt, entre otras, y no tengo que decir que fué muy divertido y emocionante.

As some time has passed, I think I can show you some pictures of my project Wolverine: Totem.

I worked doing some one-shots with the old Logan, Wolverine: Sense Memory, Wolverine vs Thor, Wolverine: Mr.X, Wolverine:Weapon X Files, and help end some related books, and my lack of modesty and my momentum, sometimes outrageous, led me to submit a project with this name, Wolverine:Totem, to Marvel.

Could not be, but I'm proud to have tried and it helped me to keep learning and evolving as an artist.

Wolverine as a Blackfeet Indian, facing some of the Far West Marvel classic villains and a threat as terrible as known.

It helped me to dive a little more the Marvel universe, looking for information on old collections Radwide Kid or Kid Colt, among others, and I have to say that was fun and exciting.

Finalmente opté por un dibujo más sencillo. No me preguntéis por qué.

The 99. A short and exciting adventure.

Tuve hace unos años una experiencia increible formando parte del proyecto de Teshkeel Comics, The 99.

De la mano de Fabian Nicieza tuve la oportunidad de trabajar en dos historias cortas, escritas por Fabian, una protagonizada por Jami, que fue publicada en varios periódicos, y otra, con Mumita como protagonista, que apareció en el The 99 Special issue;Sacrifice.

Otros profesionales que con mayor protagonismo han ayudado a dar forma al universo de Naif Al-Mutawa son, a parte de Fabian Nicieza, Stuart Moore, Mark Buckingham, Dan Panosian, Ron Wagner o Joe Rubistein, por citar a algunos.

Estos comics se publican en Kuwait, Arabia Saudita, Emiratos Arabes Unidos,Bahrain,Oman,Qatar,Egipto, Jordania,Libano,Marruecos y Chipre.

Además se está publicando junto a DC Comics, JLA/The 99, una serie limitada de comic books americanos y crossover entre las compañias DC Comics y Teshkeel Comics. La serie cuenta un encuentro entre los superhéroes de DC Comics, Justice League of America y The 99 de Teshkeel Comics. Ha sido escrita por Fabian Nicieza y Stuart Moore y dibujada por Tom Derenick.

A few years ago I had an incredible experience being part of the draft Teshkeel Comics, The 99.

Thanks to Fabian Nicieza I had the opportunity to work on two short stories written by Fabian, the first starring Jami, which was published in several newspapers in the Middle East, and another with Mumita as starring, appearing in The 99 Special issue; Sacrifice.

Other professionals have more visibility helped shape the universe of Naif Al-Mutawa is, apart from Fabian Nicieza, Stuart Moore, Mark Buckingham, Dan Panosian, Ron Wagner and Joe Rubinstein, to name a few.

These comics are published in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Cyprus.

You're running a miniseries with DC Comics, JLA/The 99, an American comic book limited series and intercompany crossover between DC Comics and Teshkeel Comics. The series chronicled a meeting between the superheroes of DC Comics , Justice League America and Teshkeel Comics The 99. It was written by Fabian Nicieza and Stuart Moore, and drawn by Tom Derenick.

El trabajo de un dibujante de comic books no se limita a ilustrar el guión, existe mucho trabajo previo de preparación que desafortunadamente queda inédito. Saud el Leopardo en la Feria del Libro de Sevilla.

PANINI COMICS

Este fin de semana invitado por la Fundación Tres Culturas he participado junto a Pepe Caldelas en la presentación del cómic Saud el Leopardo, de Panini Comics, basado en la novela homónima de Alberto Vázquez Figueroa en el marco de la Feria del Libro de Sevilla. Alberto finalmente no ha podido asistir, pero hemos tratado de suplir su falta lo mejor posible.
Agradezco públicamente a Darío Marimón el trato exquisito que nos ha brindado y su increíble amabilidad. Espero que la labor divulgadora de la Fundación siga adelante con la misma seriedad y energía.

This weekend, invited by the Tres Culturas Foundation  I have been involved with Pepe Caldelas in the presentation of the comic Saud el Leopardo, Panini Comics, based on the novel by Alberto Vazquez Figueroa in the context of the Book Fair of Seville. Alberto finally was unable to attend, but we tried to make up for the lack of it best.
I publicly thank the exquisite care  Dario Marimon has given us and their incredible kindness. I hope that the informative work of the Foundation to continue forward with the same earnestness and energy.

La Feria del Libro estaba ubicada en la plaza Nueva, un lugar muy céntrico, al lado de la catedral, un emplazamiento perfecto, muy bonito.
